Queen’s Drive is a very special place to learn…
Our pupils are driven by an exciting blend of innovative and unique skills-based learning, complemented by enthusiastic, knowledgeable and nurturing staff. Our teachers love to teach and inspire a desire to learn and make progress amongst all pupils.
A multitude of real-life experiences give our children’s learning a purpose and they thrive using these opportunities. Year 6 pupils participate in a 3-day residential visit at Kingswood, where their teamwork, communication and organisational skills are developed and their resilience is tested daily as they challenge themselves to participate in a range of adventurous activities. Our pupils ski, experience musical theatre, visit religious buildings, go to museums, zoos, farms, castles and participate in a wide range of sporting events; in fact, the school has participated in every sporting competition and fixture available to Preston Primary Schools for the last 5 years! The school consistently finishes in the top 3 in such competitions across a wide range of sports.
Themed days enrich our curriculum. Pupils develop their historical understanding by becoming Ancient Greeks or Stone Age children for the day, and writing days engage our most reluctant writers with a hook for learning – such as the Delorean from “Back to the Future” that visited our school as part of our 50th birthday celebrations. We have even had a school visit by the Queen! There’s never a dull moment at Queen’s Drive!
We recognise the importance our pupils have in driving the school forward. An active school council provides a voice for the children and drives initiatives such as paper recycling, playtime toy bags and even fundraising events. We support local and international charities and are often found dressed up for the day or selling cakes we have baked ourselves at playtime.
Queen’s Drive is proud of its Teaching School status. Working closely with the Preston Teaching Schools Alliance, Broughton High School, Archbishop Temple High School, other primary schools and universities, we help to train the teachers of tomorrow. Trainee teachers are based within the school and learn from the high standards of outstanding teaching staff, providing them with support and guidance along their career path.
At the heart of our curriculum is the drive for every child to achieve their full potential. Every achievement is recognised, and 2019 was cause for further celebration as the school maintained its high academic standards with 92% of the year 6 children attaining the expected standard or above in Reading, 95% in Grammar & Punctuation, 97% in Writing and 90% in Mathematics. 60% of the children attained the ‘higher standard’ in Grammar and Punctuation, 35% in Writing, 43% in Mathematics and 41% in Reading.
The Key Stage 1 results are also a great achievement for the school with 82% of the year 2 children attaining the expected standard or above in Reading, 84% in Writing and 91% in Mathematics. 23% of the children attained the ‘higher standard’ in Writing, 28% in Mathematics and 26% in Reading.
These results show sustained high standards over many years and alongside our exciting curriculum, warrant our ‘Outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted.
Queen’s Drive is a very special place to learn; a place where the pupils can “Dream, Believe and Achieve”!
With very best wishes
