At QDPS we inspire everyone to develop their true potential and a love of learning through curiosity and excitement.

HEAD TEACHER – MRS N GOMERSALL.

Queen’s Drive is a very special place to learn…

Our pupils are driven by an exciting blend of innovative and unique skills-based learning, complemented by enthusiastic, knowledgeable and nurturing staff. Our teachers love to teach and inspire a desire to learn and make progress amongst all pupils.

A multitude of real-life experiences give our children's learning a purpose and they thrive using these opportunities. Year 6 pupils participate in a residential visit, where their teamwork, communication and organisational skills are developed and their resilience is tested daily as they challenge themselves to participate in a range of adventurous activities. Our pupils experience musical theatre, learn about "Electricity" through "Bright Sparks", visit religious buildings, go to museums, castles and participate in a wide range of sporting events; in fact, you name and we do it! We have a very strong reputation in the area for our commitment to sport and achieve highly at local and even national competitions.

Themed days enrich our curriculum. Pupils develop their historical understanding by becoming Ancient Greeks, Romans, Victorians or Stone Age children for the day. We re-stage the Great Fire of London annually in Year 1, setting fire to our constructed buildings! There's never a dull moment at Queen's Drive!

Pupils at Queen’s Drive have access to a wide range of resources and areas to enhance the school experience. A fully drained  field enables a wide range of sporting opportunities to take place; we even have our own astro-turf cricket strip. The children make great use of the trim trail areas and MUGA to keep themselves physically active. The school field also incorporates a two-tone ‘Daily Mile’ track for all the children to use throughout the week. This is a very popular resource that is used by the children and staff to promote physical and mental health. Queen's Drive is very proud of its own Forest School area. This is now established near the front of the school and acts as a great learning resource for all ages of children through our trained Forest School leaders.

The school has a wealth of technological resources to enhance the curriculum with a large selection of laptops, iPads and large interactive teaching boards at the children’s disposal. All classrooms are equipped with these devices to ensure the children have the best facilities to aid their learning.

We recognise the importance our pupils have in driving the school forward. An active school council provides a voice for the children and drives initiatives such as reading with the older generation, contributing to the design of our lunchtime menus and fundraising events. We support local and international charities and are often found dressed up for the day or selling cakes we have baked ourselves at playtime.

Queen's Drive Primary School are proud to work closely with the University of Cumbria and Broughton High School, and is highly committed to training teachers of the future. Trainee teachers are based within the school and learn from the high standards of outstanding teaching staff, providing them with support and guidance along their career path.

At the heart of our curriculum is the drive for every child to achieve their full potential. Every achievement is recognised, and 2023 was cause for further celebration as the school maintained its high academic standards with 82% of the year 6 children attaining the expected standard or above in Reading, 81% in Writing, 84% in Grammar & Punctuation and 84% in Mathematics. 26% of children achieved the higher standard in reading, 20% in writing, 28% in mathematics and 41% in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. These results show sustained high standards over many years and alongside our exciting curriculum, warrant our 'Outstanding' judgement from Ofsted.

Queen's Drive is a very special place to learn; a place where the pupils can "Dream, Believe and Achieve"!

These are our VALUES, here at Queen's Drive,
We're part of a team where we will all thrive.
Reflective, resilient with compassion and care,
We’re risk takers, confident, willing to share.
We are healthy and happy, creative in thought,
Applying the skills that we have been taught.
We always aim high, we DREAM and BELIEVE.
Imagine- with this - what we can ACHIEVE!

If you are looking for a place for your child, don't just take my word for it, make an appointment with me and come and see all the wonderful things that we do. Please enjoy our website which has lots of information about the school and celebrates the fantastic learning experience at Queen’s Drive.

With very best wishes
Mrs N Gomersall – Head Teacher.
