Here is some girl’s football news from Mr Aspinall –
The Year 5 and 6 girl’s football team played in the Preston Schools’ 6 aside tournament recently. With 28 teams taking part, it was a very busy event. It was held at the UCLan arena at Cottam.
In the group stages, QD won 3 and drew one of their matches. This meant that they had successfully qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition. In the first knock-out game, QD played St Joseph’s. It was a close game with a 2-1 victory for QD. This then pitched them against Deepdale. This too was a close match; QD winning by 1 goal to nil.
Having won these 2 games, QD were now in a final with 2 other teams! Broughton and St Stephen’s. Confidence was high but energy was low as the girls had played 3 successive matches to get to this stage. Sadly it was this tiredness that was QD’s undoing as they lost both games games which resulted in them finishing 3rd overall. St Stephen’s went on to win the overall event.
3rd place is a great achievement for the girls team.
The girls are due to play the 4th round of the Dick Kerr Cup in a couple of weeks time against St Anthony’s.
