Year Five visited Blackpool Zoo on Monday 11th February to complete their theme work. After finding out about the rainforests and why they are being destroyed, we tried to find ourselves some rainforest animals. We saw monkeys, deer, tigers, gorillas and peacocks to name a few. Sadly, the main animal we wanted to see – the orangutans – were not on show as they had earlier escaped from their enclosure into the roof and repairs were needed!
We also found out about why different species of animals worldwide were being threatened. Tigers are hunted for their fur and body parts, which are used in medicine. Did you know there are only about 500 tigers left in the wild but as many as this are kept AS PETS in America? We examined artefacts and discovered why turtles and elephants are also hunted.
Our pupils were brilliantly behaved throughout the day and we had a fantastic visit!
