This morning Year 6 had the fantastic opportunity of visiting BBC Radio Lancashire, whose station is based in the heart of Blackburn. This is the third consecutive year that the Y6 children have visited the radio stations and this year was certainly a memorable one. During our hour visit the children were shown around the studios, where the radio teams put the shows together. This was then followed by a 45 minute session with the radio presenter Glen Hunt and sound technician, Chris Thornley, who kindly shared all their many years of experience in the radio industry. Hudaifah, Lily, Mohammed, Aafiya, Yumna, Esha and Zaiyaan were given the opportunity to ask questions to Glen and then many other children asked further questions to Chris at the end of the session.
However, the icing on the cake was when the radio producer gave some of our children some ‘air time’ and played their podcasts live on the radio. The lucky ones were Blake, with his poem ‘The Storm’ and Hudaifah with his piece ‘My Heroes’, along with Lily who had her piece about her literature hero, JK Rowling.
It certainly was a morning to remember and who knows this visit may inspire some of our children to take a career in the radio industry!!
Well done Y6, Mrs Burgon was an extremely proud podcasting teacher!!
