DT- Structures

Date: 6th Mar 2025 @ 2:37pm

This half term, Year 5 have been putting their design and technology skills to the test by creating bird houses as part of their DT unit. The children have been learning all about different structures and how to build sturdy, weatherproof homes for our feathered friends.

To kick off the project, pupils experimented with paper straws to test out a range of structural designs. This hands-on activity helped them understand how different shapes and frameworks can create stronger and more stable structures. It’s been fantastic to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action!

Over the coming weeks, the children will be using their designs to build their very own bird houses, thinking carefully about both functionality and appearance.

We can't wait to see the finished creations and, hopefully, welcome some new visitors to our school garden!

Watch this space for updates and photos of their brilliant work.
