Prevent

Prevent

Prevent is the "Safeguarding" arm of the Government's counter terrorism strategy. Under the Counterterrorism and Security Act 2015 a duty was placed on Lancashire County Council to prevent people from being drawn into terrorist activity known as the "Prevent Duty". Its aim is to protect people and communities from harm (extremist activity) or abuse (radicalisation).

At Queen's Drive Primary School, we believe that children should be given the opportunity to explore the issue of diversity and understand Britain as a multi-cultural society. Providing a safe learning environment in which children can raise questions and concerns will engender an open attitude to multi-cultural and race issues. Through our curriculum, assemblies and school ethos and approach to critical thinking, we support all our children in developing respect for everyone whatever their race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, special need or disability.

Our Prevent Risk Assessment outlines the measures in place to protect pupils from harm and reduce the risk of radicalisation for pupils attending Sherwood Primary School. This includes specific understanding of how to identify individual pupils who may be at risk of radicalisation  and what to do to support them. Our Risk Assessment also outlines the robust safeguarding procedures in place to identify and intervene when concerns are raised by any member of the School Community. Measures in place are carefully considered under the following headings:

  • Welfare and Safeguarding

  • Curriculum and Learning

  • Organisational Cultures

  • Management of Premises

  • Online Safety

  • External Factors

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead for PREVENT is Mrs N Gomersall (Headteacher/DSL)
