At Queen’s Drive Primary School, we recognise and celebrate the importance of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity to the holistic development of our pupils. We support, encourage and provide opportunities for our pupils achieve the recommended 60 active minutes during their school day. Exercise plays a major role in mental wellbeing and ensuring children are able and ready to learn. We aim to ensure that the children’s experience of Physical Education is positive and motivating and that children’s attitudes to a healthy lifestyle are firmly embedded in our curriculum.
Our Physical Education curriculum provides opportunities for our pupils to learn and develop fundamental movement and sporting skills through a range of sports and activities. We are very fortunate to provide enhanced opportunities for example, using our climbing tower. When using this, children are not only physically active, but also develop important personal character traits such as determination, resilience, confidence and self-belief. These traits are also included and developed in our Physical Education lessons.
A key driver is to provide children with the desire and skills to participate in sport both recreationally and competitively whilst fostering a life-long love of physical activity and the benefits it can provide.
This area of the website contains further information about our curriculum and also a review of our Sport Premium allocation spending.
The subject leaders for Physical Education are: Mr Pearce, Mrs Brame and Mr Aspinall.
