PSHE and RSE

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) underpins life at Queen’s Drive Primary School and enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our pupils are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. In order to prepare young children for their future, it is vital that they are equipped with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to become informed and independent citizens.

Our PSHE Curriculum is based on the 'Kapow' scheme of work has been carefully planned to support our pupils in progressively developing knowledge of:

·        Families and relationships

·        Health and well being

·        Safety and the changing body

·        Citizenship

·        Economic wellbeing (new 2024-2025)

We provide a safe and supportive environment that supports and encourages pupils to ask questions in PSHE lessons. As appropriate, Question Boxes are also used to provide our children with the opportunity to ask a question that might arise during PSHE, privately or anonymously, if they prefer.

At Queen’s Drive, our PSHE curriculum is rich in oracy opportunities for our children. With knowledge, skills and vocabulary at the core of our curriculum, we are committed to using purposeful talk throughout PSHE to further enhance pupils learning. Vocabulary will be explicitly taught and modelled in PSHE with structured opportunities planned to enable all learners to develop the skills needed to talk effectively and with confidence.

PSHE is rich in cultural opportunities as pupils investigate the world and people around them with aim of understanding themselves and others. This is essential knowledge for pupils as they need the skills to be educated citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

The subject leaders for PSHE are: Miss Till and Mr Noblet
