Great Fire of London
Date: 12th Nov 2024 @ 4:20pm
What a day we had today! We came into the hall to find a very tired visitor.
He went on to tell us that he was so tired because he had been awake for a very long time trying to put out a fire in London. We saw some of the equipment that he used. There were no firefighters so everybody had to try and help. We learned about why the fire spread so quickly and lots of other interesting facts. For example we learned that the word curfew means 'to cover fire' this was done every night in London to prevent a large fire. Every night someone would walk the streets ringing the curfew bell. However one night a spark started a fire after a long dry summer and the fire spread quickly.
We also got chance to match the materials to the items they made, play a game, play with toys from the time and learn how wattle wood to see how the houses were made.
