Ice and snow

Welcome to Spring 1! We are very excited this half term to be learning all about "a Winter's day". Each class had a lovely discussion to generate what we already know about this topic, and we came up withs some fantastic questions which led us to planning our line of inquiry. This week, we were extremely lucky to have such fantastic weather! The snow and ice triggered lots of discussion and questioning around what snow/ice feel like and why they melt. We also began to think about animals which do not like the winter and instead, choose to hibernate. We did an experiment involving 2 hot water bottles where 1 was very cozy in a box with leaves and a blanket "hibernating", while the other went out in the snow. This allowed us to see why animals hibernate as the heat loss was so dramatic! We aim to continue looking at a variety of hibernating animals over the next few weeks so watch this space!
