Science in year 5

Date: 3rd Nov 2024 @ 7:30pm

This term, our Year 5 students have been diving into the exciting world of materials and their properties, working scientifically to answer big questions. Through hands-on experiments, they’ve become real investigators, testing materials and learning about their everyday uses.

In one experiment, students tested different types of cups to find the best thermal insulator. Using thermometers, they measured how well each cup kept liquids warm, and the results sparked lively discussions about why certain materials hold heat better than others. This hands-on testing gave students a deeper understanding of insulators and their importance in keeping things hot (or cold!).

The next challenge was exploring conductivity. Our year 5s built simple electrical circuits and experimented with various materials to find which one made the best conductor. This activity helped them see the real-world applications of conductors in electronics, sparking a new appreciation for how everyday objects work.

Our young scientists are learning so much through these activities, building both knowledge and curiosity about the materials in the world around them. We’re proud of their enthusiasm and can’t wait to see where their scientific curiosity takes them next!
